It all began in September, 1968

Mr. Gabriel Pereira (1938-2010) a successful carpenter stumbled upon a business opportunity to open a retail independent hardware store. Azores hardware started in a rented space with barely 500 square feet situated on “The Main” at 4260 boulevard Saint-Laurent, Montréal. For the next several years both Gabriel and spouse Maria Eduarda worked tireless hours to build the business. Business sales grew quickly and it became apparent that the lack of space, supply and support was in great need.

In the early 70’s

Azores hardware moved to a bigger location just a few meters north of where it was previously. At this time Mr. Pereira also purchased a new Volkswagen beetle for $1800, removed the back seats and installed a roof rack in order to offer a delivery service and supply building materials.

In 1975,

Another opportunity arose. Mr. Pereira wanted to grow beyond that small store. To do so he moved across to the east side of the street at 4289 boulevard Saint-Laurent.

In 1979,

Mr. Pereira bought the historic building at 4299 boulevard Saint-Laurent which is the same location were the business is today.

In 1983,

With Gabriel’s encouragement and guidance, son’s Gaby, Paulo and Kevin worked in the business and contributed to its success. Our dad taught us the importance of taking care of our customers. “Treat them like family” he would say. He taught us how to solve their problems and how to learn from them. Most importantly he taught us that the most sacred bond between us and our customers is trust.

In 1985,

Azores became part of the “uni-total” franchise which several years later changed name to “PRO”.

In 2008,

With business growing, the brothers felt it was time to expand their vision as well as the actual store space. Azores hardware went thought major renovations exterior as well as interior.

In 2014,

Azores joined the “HOME HARDWARE” franchise. Home stores are 100% Canadian owned, with over 100,000 different items available!

One thing stayed the same our mission “to provide quality solution and products with helpful and friendly service”.
